Elsewhere there was heartbreak for Elina Svitolina but Ukrainian hopes were kept alive by Dayana Yastremska who continues her dream run down under.
On the men’s side Sinner, Alcaraz and Djokovic made serene progress whilst Zverev, Fritz and Rublev were made to work. With the top 6 seeds all still in the draw for the first time in the Open Era, there has never been a tougher last 8 at the Australian Open.
