It is a grounded trust in God's goodness and faithfulness even in the most trying of times. Our faith in God must be based on an objective understanding of who He is. It should not be premised upon our own projection of what God ought to be. At today's sermon, Rev Dr William Chang contrasted the faith exhibited by the humble Canaanite woman with the disbelief of the fastidious Pharisees and Jesus' closest disciples. The Pharisees, obsessed with external piety, could not accept Jesus because He did not conform with man-made traditions. The disciples doubted Jesus repeatedly as they have mistakenly assumed the Messiah to be a worldly king endowed with political might. The Canaanite woman in Matthew 15 however, gave Jesus the benefit of doubt. Despite Jesus' initial rejection, she persisted in supplication and her daughter was eventually healed. Faith in Jesus was not contingent on her personal experience but anchored in trusting God.
