Step into the shadows of the Old Dominion as we investigate two bone-chilling Virginia vampire legends passed down through generations of folklore.
In our first tale, we head to Richmond to retrace the infamous 1925 Church Hill Tunnel collapse. Legend has it that something far more terrifying than a railroad crew clawed its way out of the subterranean wreckage—a tall, Victorian-clad entity with razor-sharp fangs and a taste for blood. Witnesses claim the creature sprinted across the city before vanishing directly into the iron-grated vault of William Wortham Pool at Hollywood Cemetery. To this day, visitors report seeing a silent, shadowy figure standing atop the crypt, dissolving into the stone when the light hits.
Next, we travel west to the rugged mountain town of Big Stone Gap in the late 1890s. Fresh off the publication of Bram Stoker's Dracula, a wave of panic gripped the community when prize cattle began turning up brutally mutilated and entirely drained of blood. When locals and travelers started meeting the exact same grisly fate, suspicion fell on Rupp, an isolated European immigrant living deep in the woods. When an armed vigilante mob finally stormed his cabin, they uncovered a house of horrors—and unleashed a dark Appalachian legend that haunts the mountains to this day.
