John, like many, was a normal young man who wanted to join the police to make a difference. Little did he know the course of his life would change forever one day back in 1984.

The murder of Yvonne Fletcher, a Police officer and close friend and colleague of John's, occurred on 17 April 1984, when she was fatally wounded by a shot fired from the Libyan embassy on St James's Square, London, by an unknown gunman. John and Yvonne had been deployed to monitor a demonstration against the Libyan leader Gaddafi, and died shortly afterwards. Her death resulted in an eleven-day siege of the embassy, at the end of which those inside were expelled from the country.

John was the last person Yvonne would see and speak with that day as he rode in the ambulance with her to the hospital. During that trip John made a promise to Yvonne, that he would find out who and why. A promise he has kept as he has fought to keep as he sets to bring those responsible for this awful crime to justice.

John's story is nothing short of mind blowing and we are extremely proud to welcome him to Protect and Serve.
","author_name":"Oliver Laurence"}
