She moved to New York to study jazz composition at the Manhattan School of Music under Jim McNeely and has spent her career as one of the most distinctive voices in large-ensemble writing. Her work includes her own chamber jazz group m_unit, conducting posts with the Metropole Orkest and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, and a BBC Proms debut last year.</p><p>This week, she released <em>Frames</em>, her fourth album on Edition Records with the Danish Radio Big Band. The album draws on the musical language of the conductors who led that band across its decades of existence, including McNeely, who passed away last year. It's a project with significant weight behind it.</p><p>(The musical excerpts heard in the interview are from Miho Hazama's album <em>Frames</em>)</p><p>—</p><h2><strong>Dig Deeper</strong></h2><p>• <strong>Artist and Album:</strong></p><ul><li>Visit Miho Hazama at <a href=\"https://www.mihohazama.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">mihohazama.com</a> and follow her on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/mihohazama/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a>, Facebook](<a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/mihohazamamusic/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">https://www.facebook.com/mihohazamamusic/</a>), and <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCSjs7cyyJ7UWxIpg_7EVAxQ\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube</a></li><li>Purchase Miho Hazama's <em>Frames</em> from <a href=\"https://editionrecords.com/releases/frames/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Edition Records</a>, <a href=\"https://mihohazama.bandcamp.com/album/frames\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bandcamp</a>, or <a href=\"https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/frames-miho-hazama-danish-radio-big-band/b86p29vr5ofmh\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Qobuz</a>, and listen on your <a href=\"https://orcd.co/mxmo6vo\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">streaming platform of choice</a></li><li>Listen to <em>m_unit: Beyond Orbits</em>, Hazama's most recent album with her New York ensemble, on <a href=\"https://mihohazama.bandcamp.com/album/m-unit-beyond-orbits\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bandcamp</a></li></ul><p>• <strong>Danish Radio Big Band and Its History:</strong></p><ul><li><a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DR_Big_Band\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Danish Radio Big Band</a> — Wikipedia overview of the band's history and chief conductors</li><li>Danish Radio Big Band performance archive on <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLysPxrQwj2Yd3eCFXZuomzBToOilaEEcm\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube</a></li><li><a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ib_Glindemann\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ib Glindemann</a> — founding bandleader and inspiration for <em>Frames</em> composition \"The Pioneer's Quest\"</li><li><a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palle_Mikkelborg\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Palle Mikkelborg</a> — Danish trumpeter and composer;
