He's worked with Bill Frisell, Tigran Hamasyan, Terence Blanchard, and yes, Prince.</p><p>His new album <em>BaRcoDe</em> just dropped on Edition Records. It's built around a concept that's hard to pull off: four of the most in-demand vibraphonists working today—Joel Ross, Simon Moullier, Patricia Brennan, and Juan Diego Villalobos—surrounding one saxophonist. The group developed the music across two residencies at The Jazz Gallery in New York City, and the result is something that sits between chamber music and jazz improvisation, with electronics running through all of it.</p><p>Ben's here to walk us through how this project came together and what it took to write for an ensemble like this.</p><p>(The musical excerpts heard in the interview are from Ben Wendel's album <em>BaRcoDe</em>)</p><p>—</p><h2><strong>Dig Deeper</strong></h2><h3>Artist and Album</h3><ul><li>Visit Ben Wendel at <a href=\"https://benwendel.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">benwendel.com</a> and follow him on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/benwendel/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a>, <a href=\"https://www.facebook.com/benwendelmusician/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook</a>, and <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/user/benwendel\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube</a></li><li>Purchase Ben Wendel's <em>BaRcoDe</em> from <a href=\"https://editionrecords.com/releases/barcode/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Edition Records</a>, <a href=\"https://benwendel.bandcamp.com/album/barcode\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bandcamp</a>, or <a href=\"https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/barcode-ben-wendel/pdxeeae1gvey1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Qobuz</a> and listen on your <a href=\"https://orcd.co/xmpdlqr\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">streaming platform of choice</a>.</li><li><a href=\"https://postgenre.org/review-ben-wendels-barcode/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>BaRcoDe</em> — Postgenre review</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.popmatters.com/ben-wendel-barcode\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>BaRcoDe</em> — PopMatters review</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.kneebody.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Kneebody</a> — Ben Wendel's long-running band;
