The quartet consists of Claire Devlin on tenor sax, Allison Burik on alto sax and bass clarinet, Eli Davidovici on bass, and Mili Hong on drums. No guitar, no piano, just three mostly single-note instruments and a drum kit, which turns out to be more than enough. Their debut, <em>Root in Tandem</em>, earned serious praise. Their second album, <em>The Call</em>, came out on February 6th on Constellation Records. It was built from bird sound transcriptions, Mary Oliver poems, and sessions in the countryside, and it doesn't sound like anything else on that storied label's roster.</p><p>Two members of the collective, Claire Devlin and Eli Davidovici, are here to take us through the story.</p><p>(The musical excerpts heard in the interview are from Bellbird's album <em>The Call</em>)</p><p>—</p><h2>Dig Deeper</h2><p>• <strong>Artist and Album:</strong></p><ul><li>Visit Bellbird at <a href=\"https://www.bellbird.band/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">bellbird.band</a> and follow them on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/bellbird.music/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a> and <a href=\"https://www.youtube.com/@BellbirdBand/videos\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">YouTube</a></li><li>Purchase Bellbird's <em>The Call</em> from <a href=\"https://cstrecords.com/collections/catalogue/products/cst190-bellbird-the-call\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Constellation Records</a>, <a href=\"https://bellbirdband.bandcamp.com/album/the-call\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Bandcamp</a>, or <a href=\"https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/the-call-bellbird/ofkvbc7900t8a\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Qobuz</a>, and listen on your <a href=\"https://lnk.to/cst190\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">streaming platform of choice</a></li><li>Visit Bellbird's page at <a href=\"https://cstrecords.com/pages/artist/bellbird\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Constellation Records</a></li></ul><p>• <strong>Individual Members:</strong></p><ul><li><a href=\"https://clairedevlin.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Claire Devlin</a> — tenor saxophone; follow her on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/clairedevlinmusic/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.elidavidovici.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Eli Davidovici</a> — bass</li><li><a href=\"http://www.allisonburik.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Allison Burik</a> — alto saxophone and bass clarinet; follow them on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/allisonburikmusic/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a></li><li><a href=\"https://www.milihong.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Mili Hong</a> — drums; follow her on <a href=\"https://www.instagram.com/the_drummy_bear/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram</a></li></ul><p>• <strong>Label:</strong></p><ul><li><a href=\"https://cstrecords.com/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Constellation Records</a> — Montréal's celebrated independent label, home to Godspeed You!
