Writer, director, and producer James Freedman joins The Jan Price Show All About Movies to discuss his new documentary, “Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause,” available now to stream on Amazon, Apple TV, Fandango, and Google Play.
Best known for his unforgettable comedic performances in films like “The Heartbreak Kid,” “Midnight Run,” and “Beethoven,” Charles Grodin built a career playing characters whose dry wit, deadpan delivery, and perfectly timed frustration made him one of Hollywood’s most distinctive actors. But beyond the screen, Grodin devoted decades of his life to a cause that meant far more to him than fame.
“Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause” explores the actor’s tireless efforts to help free wrongly convicted individuals, many of them mothers of color with young children. Through his advocacy, Grodin challenged injustices in the criminal justice system and used his public platform to bring attention to people whose stories might otherwise have gone unheard.
James Freedman discusses the making of the documentary, Grodin’s legacy as both an entertainer and humanitarian, and the side of the beloved actor that many audiences never knew.
“Charles Grodin: Rebel with a Cause” is available now on Amazon, Apple TV, Fandango, and Google Play.
