Hello! And Happy Halloween!
Anders Holmes is back with a new solo Anders Reviews. . . episode.
Spooky Season is now in session, summer is over, the days are getting shorter and colder. It is the perfect time of the year to sit down and watch a horror film or two. Or many if you're a big horror nut, like Anders.
On this episode, Anders sits down to discuss two of his favourite films of the 2010s. Jennifer Kent's excellent and terrifying directorial debut: The Babadook released in 2014. And Robert Eggers's brilliant follow-up to his first feature: The Lighthouse released in 2019. Both films represent the best of modern horror and are some of the best horror films to have been made in the last ten years. The Babadook stars Essie Davis as a grieving mother dealing with her troubled son and a monster jumping off the page of one of her son's children's stories. The Lighthouse is a cross between Herman Melville and H.P. Lovecraft and stars Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe as two lighthouse keepers going slowly mad in isolation, while manning a lighthouse on an island. An island off the coast of New England in 1890s.
We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for the next Fascism on Film episode about Charlie Chaplin's film The Great Dictator.

Also do check out The Dummy Detective, a Ventriloquist Murder Mystery. The film that was discussed in the last episode of The Movies & Me series. A wonderful and fun film that harkens back to Film Noir pictures made during the Golden Age of Hollywood. But portrayed and told with a unique and modern twist. The film is the brainchild of Jonathan Geffner, who stars in the film as Detective Van Trillo and wrote the film's screenplay. Deborah Twiss and Ed Altman, who were featured in our last episode along with Jonathan, play the characters of Chloe Lake and Elliot Black. The Dummy Detective also features Hollywood acting legend: Sean Young. The film is set in an upstate New York inn, where a killer hides amongst a group of eccentric and strange guests staying at the Inn. All have their own secrets and chequered pasts. The ventriloquist detective Van Trillo and his dummy partner Sam Suede must race against time to find and unmask the killer. The Dummy Detective is a charming film that nicely blends the genres of the mystery thriller and film noir with dark comedy. The Dummy Detective is available to stream and watch on various sites, like Amazon, Tubi and Plex. You can find all the info on the film here by clicking this link. You can follow the film on Instagram and on YouTube. Also, do give Deborah and Ed a follow as well.
Anders's screenwriter work can also be seen at work in the horror, car chase thriller Delivery Run, co-written with & directed by Joey Palmroos. The film has been released digitally and also in select cinemas in the US and the UK. In Finland it was released on Apple TV after finishing its limited cinema run and was the Number 1 film for multiple weeks. You can read a review about it here on the Fangoria website. The film is now available to watch in the other Nordic territories like Sweden, Oslo and of course Denmark. If you live in Denmark, you can watch the movie here on Apple TV by clicking this link.
