On 11 October 1987, nine days after his resignation, Barschel was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beau-Rivage_Geneva\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hotel Beau-Rivage</a> in <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geneva\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Geneva</a>, <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Switzerland\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Switzerland</a>.
