The crash also resulted in the deaths of her companion <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dodi_Fayed\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Dodi Fayed</a> and the driver, Henri Paul, who was the acting security manager of the <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H%C3%B4tel_Ritz_Paris\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Hôtel Ritz Paris</a>. <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trevor_Rees-Jones_(bodyguard)\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Trevor Rees-Jones</a>, who was employed as a bodyguard by Dodi's father, survived the crash.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Mohamed Al-Fayed claimed there was a conspiracy.</p><p><br></p><p>In 2001, Diana's butler <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Burrell\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Burrell</a> published a note that he claimed had been written by Diana in 1995, in which there were allegations that <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles,_Prince_of_Wales\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">her former husband</a> was \"planning 'an accident' in [Diana's] car, brake failure and serious head injury\" so that he could marry again.</p><p><br></p><p>A special <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Police\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Metropolitan Police</a> inquiry team was established in 2004, <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paget\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Operation Paget</a>, headed by Commissioner <a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Stevens,_Baron_Stevens_of_Kirkwhelpington\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">John Stevens</a> to investigate the various conspiracy theories which led up to the British inquest.
