Daryl Davis","thumbnail_width":200,"thumbnail_height":200,"thumbnail_url":"https://open-images.acast.com/shows/6100770b31fd81f125b34d81/610077339a9767001477d6c6.jpg?height=200","description":"<p>The nation is again facing the&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/06/04/condoleezza-rice-moment-confront-race-america/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">deep pain</a>&nbsp;of racial injustice.&nbsp;The recent&nbsp;killings of&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.allsides.com/story/independent-autopsy-george-floyd-died-asphyxiation\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">George Floyd,</a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.allsides.com/news/2020-05-08-0813/ahmaud-arberys-murder\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Ahmaud Arbery</a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.nytimes.com/article/breonna-taylor-police.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Breonna Taylor&nbsp;</a>reverberated across the country, sparking&nbsp;widespread protests in many cities.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>These cases were only the latest on&nbsp;a very long list of attacks and murders of African-American men and women.&nbsp;They&nbsp;resulted in public outrage, some violent&nbsp;incidents, and many&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.allsides.com/story/perspectives-racism-policing\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">calls for police reforms.</a></p><p><br></p><p>In this special episode, we share the latest podcast of \"<a href=\"https://commongroundcommittee.org/podcasts/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Let's Find Common Ground</a>,\" a new series of episodes with public leaders that explore points of agreement in this divided time.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>To gain some insight on what can be done to address&nbsp;discrimination and&nbsp;tensions between races, we speak with&nbsp;R&amp;B and blues&nbsp;musician&nbsp;<a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daryl_Davis\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Daryl Davis</a>, a black man who has spent the past 35 years on&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/03/the-audacity-of-talking-about-race-with-the-klu-klux-klan/388733/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a remarkable quest</a>&nbsp;of speaking with, and at times befriending, members of white supremacist groups. He has helped more than 200 KKK members to renounce their racist ideology.</p><p><br></p><p>\"We have to ask ourselves the question: do I want to sit back and see what my country becomes, or do I want to stand up and make my country become what I want to see,\" Daryl tells us. \"I've chosen the latter.
