Be on guard? Keep awake?</li><li>Stay awake seems to be a theme - used 4x</li><li>Maybe a parallel to Mt 25 as well with the 10 virgins story?</li><li>Hard to believe Jesus doesn't know when he is coming? Surely, not a lack of divine attributes?</li><li>Evening, midnight, rooster crows, morning - any relation to Peter's denial or just Roman watches of the night?</li><li>Stay awake -also reminds me of the garden scene to come.</li><li>Say to ALL - stay awake - with everything Jesus could have talked about when it comes to the end - why is this the central theme?</li><li>Mt seems more drastic with the master of the house story. He also adds weeping and gnashing of teeth. Not pleasant.</li></ul><p>NOTE: We also discussed the judgment motif in Matthew 24's parallel verses 36-51. These verses do not speak of a \"rapture\" but instead of the unexpectedness of the 2nd coming and swift judgment. This insight is helpful as we look at these verses in Mark. </p><p><br></p><p>Meaning:</p><p> Stay Awake! He could come any time! (Mark's readers should understand that Jesus isn't pulling any punches...he predicted the actions to take place by 70AD, and all of it happened. Many readers should fully expect his 2nd coming to be just as sure.)</p><p><br></p><p>Application:</p><p>Inward: His words echo into the future.
