Recently, he joined Michelle Deutchman, the executive director of the <a href=\"https://freespeechcenter.universityofcalifornia.edu/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement</a>, for an episode of the center’s podcast, “<a href=\"https://freespeechcenter.universityofcalifornia.edu/speechmatters-podcast/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Speech Matters</a>.” They discussed how to foster and protect free speech on campuses, along with <a href=\"https://www.law.uci.edu/faculty/full-time/gillman/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Howard Gillman</a>, chancellor of the University of California at Irvine. Chemerinsky and Gillman are co-chairs of the center’s national advisory board and wrote the book <a href=\"https://yalebooks.yale.edu/9780300240016/free-speech-on-campus\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Free Speech on Campus</em></a> together.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>Other episodes of the “Speech Matters” are available wherever you get your podcasts.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://freespeechcenter.universityofcalifornia.edu/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/SpeechMattersEp7.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Full transcript available here</a>.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Learn More:&nbsp;</strong></p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://lawcat.berkeley.edu/record/1238307\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">“More Just”: Free Speech on Campus</a></p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/03/24/free-speech-doesnt-mean-hecklers-get-shut-down-campus-debate/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Op-Ed: Free Speech Doesn’t Mean Hecklers Get to Shut Down Campus Debate</a>, <em>Washington Post</em></p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/13/opinion/berkeley-dean-erwin-chemerinsky.html\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Q&amp;A: The Free Speech-Hate Speech Trade-Off</a>, <em>New York Times</em></p><p><br></p><p><a href=\"https://freespeechcenter.universityofcalifornia.edu/programs-and-resources/resource-materials/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Resource Materials from the National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement</a></p><ul><li><a href=\"https://freespeechcenter.universityofcalifornia.edu/speechmatters2022/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Speech Matters 2022: Safeguarding Democracy</a></li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p><strong>About:</strong>&nbsp;</p><p>“More Just” from Berkeley Law is a podcast about how law schools can and must play a role in solving society’s most difficult problems.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>The rule of law — and the role of the law — has never been more important.
