In 2021 she was awarded an MBE For Services To Literature, and she is an RSL Fellow. Her debut novel <a href=\"https://uk.bookshop.org/a/5571/9781909762268\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Butterfly Fish</em> </a>won a 2016 Betty Trask Award.
