Since 2019, Marc van der Woude has served as President of the General Court of the European Union—the lower of the two courts that make up the CJEU and the court principally responsible for reviewing the legality of acts adopted by EU institutions, bodies, offices, and agencies.. Drawing on a career that spans the College of Europe, the Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition, a secondment as legal secretary at the Court of Justice, and nearly fifteen years at the Brussels Bar, President van der Woude’s far-ranging interview reflects on the rise of EU competition law as a global regulatory model and on the General Court’s role at the center of European administrative justice.
