{"version":"1.0","type":"rich","provider_name":"Acast","provider_url":"https://acast.com","height":250,"width":700,"html":"<iframe src=\"https://embed.acast.com/$/6089b9a1935aa16c31213e5d/6089b9aa9e46326c121637b0?\" frameBorder=\"0\" width=\"700\" height=\"250\"></iframe>","title":"Gorilla Radio with Chris Cook, World Oceans Day, Gretchen Fitzgerald, Janine Bandcroft June 13th, 2019","description":"<p>The rank hypocrisy of Western civilization’s ruling elite, though  never really too deeply hidden has, with the recent arrests of  journalists and raids against their publishers, broken the surface of  the body politic like some septic pustule.</p><p>But worse than embarrassment, this sore blooming in the face of much vaunted “rule of law” proclamations made <a href=\"https://thegrayzone.com/2019/06/12/why-hondurans-set-fire-to-the-u-s-embassy/amp/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">across the once Free World</a>, and <a href=\"https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/11/europe/ivan-golunov-arrest-russia-intl/index.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">elsewhere</a>, is more pox than spot, and not easily vanished by either creams, lotions, or official bromides.</p><p>Last week, <a href=\"https://www.mintpressnews.com/australia-assange-assault-free-press/259000/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Australia’s State broadcaster ABC</a> was just one such media outlet to experience the<a href=\"https://www.abc.net.au/news/about/backstory/investigative-journalism/2019-06-08/federal-police-raid-abc-office-john-lyons-live-tweeting/11192898\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> new democratic understanding of press rights</a> and freedoms.</p><p><a href=\"http://johnhelmer.org/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">John Helmer</a> is a journalist,  former academic, government policy advisor, author, broadcaster and  principal behind the news website, Dances with Bears. An Australian  national, his recent article, ‘<a href=\"https://gorillaradioblog.blogspot.com/2019/04/trying-america-assange-case-puts-us-on.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Julian Assange Case Now Puts the US on Trial in a British Court: Is There a GET-OUT-OF-JAIL Card for Assange?</a>‘ explores security state targeting of journalism, and the unenviable fate of his countryman and all those caught up in the new <a href=\"https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/archives/2018/02/pretence-persecution-assange/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">anti-information</a> dragnets.</p><p>Some of John Helmer’s book titles include: ‘The Deadly Simple  Mechanics of Society’, ‘Drugs and Minority Oppression’, (with Claudia  Wright) ‘The Jackal’s Wedding – American Power, Arab Revolt’, ‘Grand  Strategy for Small Countries, Case Studies in Transforming Weakness into  Power,’ and his latest is the newly out political and personal memoir,  ‘The Man Who Knows Too Much About Russia’.</p><p>John Helmer in the first half.</p><p>And; Canada’s <a href=\"https://www.ernstversusencana.ca/50-canadian-law-profs-urge-environment-minister-to-reject-amendments-proposed-by-oil-industry-to-billc69-that-undermine-rule-of-law/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">senate</a> has shot down <a href=\"https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/environmental-assessment-bill-c-69-alberta-saskatchewan-ontario-1.5172950\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">proposed amendments</a> to the new <a href=\"https://www.sierraclub.ca/en/This-Bill-Cannot-Stand--Rescue-The-New-Impact-Assessment-Act-Before-It-Is-Too-Late\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Impact Assessment Act</a>,  also known as Bill C-69.
