Byman is one of the country’s foremost experts on counterterrorism and the Middle East. He served as a staff member on the 9/11 Commission, and has worked for the U.S. government and at the RAND Corporation. He recently published a paper entitled&nbsp;<a href=\"http://www.brookings.edu/~/media/research/files/papers/2012/7/alqaida%20terrorism%20byman/alqaida%20terrorism%20byman.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Breaking the Bonds between Al Qaeda and its Affiliate Organizations</em></a>&nbsp;that Ritika describes in more detail&nbsp;<a href=\"https://www.lawfareblog.com/readings-daniel-byman-al-qaeda-and-its-affiliates\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">here</a>.
