In 1983, Richard Koch and two friends who were also partners in Bain & Company started LEK, a strategy consultancy focused on mergers and acquisitions consulting. LEK grew at 100% a year during its first six years. In 1989 Richard sold his shares to his partners, using the capital to start or expand small star businesses – leaders in high growth market segments. His investments have grown at 22% compounded annually over 37 years.
Richard has written 25 books on business and ideas, including The 80/20 Principle, which has sold over a million copies and been translated into around forty languages. One of his other books, The Star Principle, outlines his unique philosophy, showing the joy of working in a startup star business. His latest work, Unreasonable Success and How to Achieve It, was published in August 2020, and provides a template for extraordinary impact on the world.
