The bits <em>betwee</em>n the words.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>The change of pace that’s a reduction to a complete standstill: the pause.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Pauses are hugely important and effective, and they go hand-in-hand with ‘pace’. They are perhaps the least-used vocal tool and are sometimes as important as the words either side of them.</p><p>&nbsp;</p><p><em>\"Silence is also speech.\"</em></p><p><strong>West African proverb</strong></p><p>&nbsp;</p><p>Don’t be afraid of silence.
