This was James' first ever drum related interview! James discusses his musical journey starting from childhood when his father, also a drummer, introduced him to the instrument, with early influences coming from Metallica and Iron Maiden.

We explored James's approach to double bass drum technique, including his preference for two bass drums over a double pedal, and his training methods that treat speed work like gym training with focused sets rather than long, slow practice sessions. Our conversation covers James's experience playing with Onslaught, particularly the challenges of learning songs like \"Chaos is King\" that required playing up to 220 BPM, and his recent work filling in for the black metal band Anaal Nathrakh playing songs at 220-250 BPM. We also discussed the differences between recording with modern click-based production versus the lo-fi sound of older thrash records.

Follow James on Instagram at: www.instagram.com/perrymasondrummer

I hope you enjoy this free episode, please subscribe to the podcast via your podcast provider & YouTube, like and review where you can and share with anyone else who might be interested.

If you've enjoyed any of my episodes, please consider joining my Patreon community via Patreon at http://www.patreon.com/drumforthesong/ for access to exclusive content, group video calls, competitions, giveaways plus 20% discount at http://www.motorhead-beer.com

I'd like to give a special thanks to my top-tier 'Legend' and 'Groove Master' Patrons for their extended support.
