It also covers trauma responses, the Harvey Weinstein case, and a brief mention of sexual violence used as a weapon of war. Please listen with care.

Imagine a jury reading your ChatGPT log where you’ve asked, “How much money can I get if I say my boss did this?” It may sound like something out of a movie, but defense lawyers are already asking for plaintiffs’ AI queries in lawsuits that can end up on a big screen in the courtroom.

In this episode of Amiga Handle Your Shit, Jackie Tapia continues her conversation with employment attorney Genie Harrison to talk more about harassment and abuse in the workplace. She has represented plaintiffs in employment and sexual abuse cases for 34 years, including cases based on discrimination, retaliation, and wage and hour claims. She’s also worked on whistleblower cases and third-party abuse cases like the ones brought against Harvey Weinstein.

Jackie and Genie discuss the importance of having a detailed, dated chronology written in your own words. They explain how a search of AI-written content can damage a promising case and become the root of distrust with your lawyer. They also dig into what you need to have for a legitimate case. Harassment can be tricky. Genie explains that feeling harassed and having a legal case are two separate questions. In California, harassment must be against a protected class such as gender, age over 40, religion, or sexual orientation. While an annoying boss can make your days miserable, it’s not enough to hold up in court. They also cover intersectional harassment and what happens with undocumented workers.

Genie circles back to the harassment she experienced as a student at Oxford. When Jackie asks about vicarious trauma, Genie shares her go-to tip for keeping a level head. She carves out an hour a day to sit with herself and practice radical self-care. For her, it’s non-negotiable: “This is me showing up for Genie,” she says.

Tune in to episode 302 of Amiga Handle Your Shit if you’re dealing with employee harassment or a hostile workplace, or if you just want to know your rights. This conversation is also for every Amiga who hears stories of hardship and needs a reminder to take care of herself first.

Episode Takeaways:

The two things Genie asks every potential client for, and why an AI-written summary of your story hurts more than it helps (3:03)

Jackie’s family law story about drunk social media photos, and what it shows about the evidence lawyers look for (8:03)

Why Genie’s firm takes only 30 to 40 cases a year and treats picking a client like picking a jury (10:54)

The privilege mistake that can damage a strong case: sharing what your lawyer tells you with an AI tool (11:30)

“If you feel you’re being harassed, you probably are,” and the legal test that decides whether it’s a case (14:37)

How power imbalances leave undocumented workers open to quid pro quo threats, and what intersectional harassment means (17:32)

What Genie would tell someone facing what she faced at Oxford: document it and reach out for a confidential conversation (21:10)

The real cost of vicarious trauma and the daily hour Genie refuses to give up (25:29)

Connect with Genie Harrison

Instagram

Website

Let’s Connect!

Website

Facebook

Instagram

LinkedIn

Jackie Tapia Arbonne website

Book: The AMIGA Way: Release Cultural Limiting Beliefs to Transform Your Life

","author_name":"Jacqueline Tapia"}
