{"version":"1.0","type":"rich","provider_name":"Acast","provider_url":"https://acast.com","height":250,"width":700,"html":"<iframe src=\"https://embed.acast.com/$/5e76da7f2a2f6c831a311c37/5e77afb46c72aab33ef0a7b9?\" frameBorder=\"0\" width=\"700\" height=\"250\"></iframe>","title":"Episode 1 - A Navy Veteran staying Engaged","thumbnail_width":200,"thumbnail_height":200,"thumbnail_url":"https://open-images.acast.com/shows/5e76da7f2a2f6c831a311c37/1584901846242-d40380e2dbaa8a251bffe7dd9d131e49.jpeg?height=200","description":"<p>Duane Stanley, a native of Marquette, Michigan, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in December 1970 under the Navy’s delayed enlistment program.&nbsp;He attended Navy boot camp at the Navy’s Recruit Training Command at Great Lakes, Illinois in January 1971.&nbsp;Following his boot camp graduation in April 1971 he attended Machinist Mate “A” school at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois.&nbsp;In August 1971 he attended “C” school in San Diego, California.</p><p><br></p><p>From November 1971 to July 1973 he served on the USS Tripoli LPH-10 as Machinist Mate assigned to “A” Division, his role was an air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic.&nbsp;&nbsp;The USS Tripoli was deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet from November 1971 to August 1972.&nbsp;The primary mission of the USS Tripoli was to transport U.S. Marine Corp troops from Okinawa, Japan to various locations in Vietnam and from Vietnam to Okinawa, Japan.</p><p><br></p><p>In July 1973 he was transferred from the USS Tripoli to the USS Thomaston LSD-28.&nbsp;He serve as a third class Machinist Mate petty officer assigned to “A” Division assigned the roles of an air-conditioning and refrigeration mechanic, hydraulics technician, and engiineman.&nbsp;&nbsp;The mission of USS Thomaston was the same as the USS Tripoli.</p><p><br></p><p>In December 1974 he was transferred from active service to the inactive reserves.&nbsp;In December 1976 he was honorably discharged from U.S. Navy.</p>","author_name":"Andrew Appleton"}
