This summer at McGill Delve, we’re going to the movies! Management experts from McGill University will join me to analyze popular films and share the lessons that lie within them. On the marquee today: The Big Short (2015).
The film depicts the lead-up to the financial crisis of 2008. It follows three protagonists as they bet against the housing market to make a profit. How did they see the collapse coming, while others did not? Could the collapse have been avoided with different incentive structures? And in a story about profit and risky investments, are there any true heroes?
Joining us to discuss the film is Levi Olando, a former fraud investigator and a current PhD student at McGill University. Eric Dicaire, Delve's managing editor, hosts this episode.
