When you start to look at the Mothman case you very quickly start to understand that it’s not about a strange cryptid prowling around a West Virgina town at night. It’s more like a phenomenon that engrossed a whole year of high strangeness. No one probably understood this better then John Keel and Mary Hyre.

John Keel would go on to write many Fortean books but in the end, he never found any answers other then he was pretty sure whatever the phenomenon he was researching was it wasn’t very nice. Keel would succumb to congestive heart failure on July 3, 2009, in New York City, he was 79. Mary Hyre tragically would pass away from an Illness which she fought for a month on February 15th, 1970. She was only 54. For over 27 years she worked for the Athens Messenger.
