Jesus begins his ministry by preaching the good news of the Kingdom of God. Israel is in religious and political turmoil. They've been waiting on a King, the promised messiah. He comes and brings a message of the Kingdom of God among them. But what does that mean? What does it require of us, of them? Mark 1:15 - \"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe in the good news!”
Matthew 4:17 - From then on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, because the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
Repentance - mind 3340 metanoéō (from 3326 /metá, \"changed after being with\" and 3539/noiéō, \"think\") – properly, \"think differently after,\" \"after a change of mind\"; to repent (literally, \"think differently afterwards\").
Matthew 16:24 - Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.
(arneomai) already means \"deny,\" so 533 (aparnéomai) suggests \"strongly reject\" (especially the source). That is, utterly refusing to recognize the original source involved. Hence 533 (aparnéomai) can imply \"ignore, disown, or repudiate\" (Abbott-Smith, so also in Herodotus, Thucydides)
Luke 14:33 - “So therefore, any one of you who does not renounce all that he has cannot be my disciple.”
Matthew 13:44 - “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure, buried in a field, that a man found and reburied. Then in his joy he goes and sells everything he has and buys that field.
Matthew 13:33 - He told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like leaven[a] that a woman took and mixed into fifty pounds[b] of flour until all of it was leavened.”
Matthew 5:8 - Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
