This week on Geektown Radio, Dave is joined by Darryl from Hollywood North News for another packed episode of TV, film and gaming goodness! We're reviewing Marvel's 'VisionQuest', 'Neagley', 'The Diplomat', 'Time', and plenty more, alongside a look at the newly released Planet Zoo 2. Plus, there's news on The X-Files reboot, a star-studded True Detective Season 5, and a whole host of renewals, cancellations and upcoming shows!
We kick things off with Darryl's latest watches, beginning with Netflix's genre-hopping sea monster thriller Below, the supernatural teen drama Coven Academy, and Apple TV's rather bizarre Matchbox: The Movie, starring John Cena. He also shares his first impressions of Marvel's VisionQuest and catches up with the excellent Neagley on Prime Video.
Dave then dives into Planet Zoo 2, discussing its new aquariums, aviaries and improved building tools, alongside a distinctly rocky launch filled with bugs. On the TV front, he reviews the latest season of Netflix's political thriller The Diplomat and the powerful third series of BBC prison drama Time, starring David Tennant.
Moving into the news, we cover BBC's decision to rest DIY SOS, Prime Video cancelling The Rig, and renewals for Waterloo Road, The Split Up and Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed. There's also the surprise return of HBO's Girls, the upcoming Frisco King starring Samuel L. Jackson, and a first look at the new Baywatch.
In casting and development news, Nicolas Cage and Antonio Banderas are teaming up for True Detective Season 5, Apple TV adds a host of new faces to Down Cemetery Road, and Ryan Coogler's The X-Files reboot gets a full series order, with Disney+ confirmed for the UK. But should it connect to Mulder and Scully's increasingly complicated mythology, or start completely fresh?
Finally, we run through the week's UK TV premieres, including The Terminal List, Lupin, The Audacity, Adultery and This City is Ours.
Plus, we're heading to MCM London Comic Con this weekend, so next week's episode will feature interviews from the event!
