Sexy & Surreal: Episode 26 - Spider (2002)

Season 3, Ep. 85

Terry and Joe are back with their first Cronenberg title of the season and...it's not great.

Spider (2002) has an intriguing premise and a flawed execution. The scenes in the past are more successful, but Ralph Fiennes' contemporary bits are dull and often unconvincing.

Plus: double your Miranda Richardson, and why the twist doesn't work for us

    With a number of new listeners reaching out, Nichole thought it was high time to do a podcast on…the podcast? More specifically, this episode tackles why she adores sharing her thoughts on horror films that touch on disability representation or themes, and - more specifically - why this podcast means so much personally.Want to reach out share your thoughts or suggest a film to cover? Bryan and Joe reunite to "celebrate" the 20th anniversary of Rick Bota's Hellraiser: Deader (2005).It's a narratively muddled film thanks to franchise elements being forced into the script, as well as its tiny budget (hello Romania!)Still, Kari Wuhrer delivers a committed performance and Joe likes the train stuff.Plus: that unfortunate byline title, terrible CGI (and an even worse human villain), and threats of another episode soon!Wanna connect with the show?> Bryan: @eviltaylorhicks> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Music Credit: Hellraiser Theme by Christopher YoungIf you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Check out Anatomy of a Scream for more great content and the other pods.

  • 46. Bodies of Horror: Episode 93 - Late Phases (2014)

    36:30||Season 4, Ep. 46
    This episode is an examination of a film that has been on Nichole's "to cover" list for some time: 2014’s Late Phases. The movie follows an older, blind veteran as he moves into a retirement community and goes on the defensive against an unknown creature (or creatures) taking out members of the community. Werewolf movies are a blind spot for Nichole, but she really appreciated what this film brings to the table. Want to share your thoughts on Late Phases or suggest a film to cover?
