2. Bodies of Horror: Episode 112 - Crazy Old Lady (2025)
48:18||Season 5, Ep. 2Hagsploitation, or narratives that root themselves in “crazy old woman” tropes, can be a lot of fun. They can also inspire a lot of cringe, particularly as we deal with the realities of aging and disability.Crazy Old Lady, an Argentinian film (available on Shudder), brings something new to the table. Unlike other entries in this subgenre, the film allows us to both question and understand the reality of our central character. Throw in themes of caregiving and how ageism – and the hagsploitation genre as a whole – is built on our fears of aging and illness, and this movie is about a lot more than initially meets the eye.Want to share your thoughts on the film? 1. Such Sights To Show: Episode 34 - Hellraiser: Revelations (2011)
49:01||Season 5, Ep. 1Bryan and Joe reunite to discuss the 15th anniversary of Victor Garcia's Hellraiser: Revelations (2011), Dimension's last ditch attempt to retain the rights to the franchise and the first film without Doug Bradley. We maintain that this one has potential - from the gentle queer coding to the found footage angle to the practical FX - but Gary J. Tunnicliffe's script (and some truly terrible adult actors) never manage to overcome the low budget and speedy production. It's a miss.Wanna connect with the show?> Bryan: @evilthiccness> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)Music Credit: Hellraiser Theme by Christopher YoungIf you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Check out Anatomy of a Scream for more great content and the other pods
100. White Ladies in Crisis: Poison Ivy (1992)
28:55||Season 4, Ep. 100Gena, Jenn and Joe return to discuss a scandalous 1992 erotic thriller featuring an underage Drew Barrymore and a very mature Tom Skeritt. In Katt Shea's Poison Ivy, Drew owns everything, which proves a bit problematic when she's not on screen.Plus: the studio-mandated ending; the sequels; Sara Gilbert; and why this movie could never be made now.Wanna connect with the show on Bluesky and Instagram?> Gena: @genadoesthings> Jenn: @jennferatu> Joe: @bstolemyremote / @joelipsett (BlueSky)If you like the podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe!Discover more dangerously good shows on the Anatomy of a Scream Pod Squad and follow the network on Instagram and BlueSky @aoas_xx

98. Bodies of Horror: Episode 110 - Dr. Giggles (1992) Revisited
32:11||Season 4, Ep. 98Happy American Heart Month! What better time to do the pod's first revisit – all the way back to Episode 1 - than with the 1992 classic, Dr. Giggles? This film has had a piece of Nichole's heart since childhood when she would use it to help talk about disability with friends. Now, many decades later, the film still packs more nuance than even she remembered.Want to discuss the film or make a suggestion for future coverage? 95. Bodies of Horror: Episode 109 - 'Mother of Flies' (2025)
33:19||Season 4, Ep. 95A cure can be alluring – especially when your prognosis is only 6 months. In Mother of Flies, Lena is a young cancer patient who is surrounded by a religious family and community asking her to rely on prayers as her condition becomes more grave. This film also looks at how care becomes a dehumanizing task that can strip someone of autonomy, intentions be damned.Additional Reading: The Adams Family Talk Witchy ‘Mother of Flies’ and Finding Beauty in Life and Death.
