Episode 94: Queens of the Stone Age, Graveyard + This Week’s New Music

Season 1, Ep. 94
•

It's New Music Friday, and this week's releases are especially good. We've got everything from bluesy, guitar-driven rock to crushing metal, post-punk, and a few surprises you might not expect.

Plus, Josh Homme has some interesting things to say about the past, Turnstile makes headlines for something that happened offstage, and a rock legend's upcoming celebration raises some complicated questions. There's also a massive batch of vinyl releases worth getting excited about and a Blink-182 moment that's a pretty great reminder of why we love music in the first place.

And somehow, a few suspicious teenagers wandering through the woods lead to a discussion about bank robbery. Don't ask. Just listen.

  • 98. Ep 98: New Music Friday – Tony Iommi, Queens of the Stone Age & Sleep Token

    22:08||Season 1, Ep. 98
    New Music Friday is here, and Tony Iommi leads it off. Plus new records from Polyphia, Wolves In The Throne Room and Fake Names, and a My Chemical Romance reissue that has me asking what actually counts as a "bonus track." In the news: Queens of the Stone Age on Fallon and a tour with the Pixies, Joey Kramer back behind the kit with Aerosmith, Sleep Token setting the record straight, and why I'm done paying stadium prices to hear the same old greatest hits.Playlists, video and more: amplifiedwithdarby.comFollow on Instagram: @darby.amplified

    This week on AMPLIFIED, System of a Down's latest concert announcement raises a question: How many times can a band tour the same songs before it's time to make something new? Plus, Knocked Loose's Brian Garris has some unexpected dream collaborators, and producer Andrew Watt shares a touching story about his final moments with Ozzy Osbourne—and the music that may still be waiting to be heard.I've also got three Picks of the Week, including something dark and atmospheric, an unexpected electronic discovery, and a 25-year-old metal masterpiece.And somehow, a frustrating experiment with AI turns into a confession about throwing weed whackers across people's lawns.New episodes every Tuesday and Friday at amplifiedwithdarby.com.Follow on Instagram: @darby.amplified
  • 96. Episode 96 Guns N' Roses, Led Zeppelin, The Pretty Reckless + This Week's New Music.

    22:50||Season 1, Ep. 96
    It's New Music Friday, and while this week's releases might not look like a blockbuster lineup, there are some intriguing records worth digging into. Fontaines D.C., Insomnium, The Keening, and plenty more on the radar. Meanwhile, Guns N' Roses have some interesting plans for 2027, Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" is making a surprising appearance, and The Rolling Stones have something new up their sleeves. Plus Slash, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and a little Beatles appreciation. And because this is AMPLIFIED, we somehow end up debating whether mooning someone is actually an insult, why Wednesday night concerts are a terrible idea, and whether naming a particular body part "Glory Hammer" comes with certain responsibilities. It's music news, new releases, and the occasional completely unnecessary detour. Listen, explore, and find more at amplifiedwithdarby.com. Follow along on Instagram @darby.amplified.

  • 93. Episode 93: My Picks of the Week + Aerosmith, Slash & Turnstile News

    17:01||Season 1, Ep. 93
    I couldn’t choose just one new rock/metal Pick of the Week this time, so I picked two. One is from a band I’d never heard before this weekend, and the other is a record that kept making me stop and wonder what the hell I was listening to—in the best possible way.I’ve also got a beautifully dark record I’ve talked about before, plus a Not-Rock Pick from a duo whose backstory somehow involves busking, traveling with a circus and a professional sculptor. Of course it does.Plus: a legendary band is teasing something nobody expected, Slash has big news, one of the best heavy bands around got a major TV moment, and apparently Christmas needs horror metal now.Hear all four Picks of the Week at amplifiedwithdarby.com.Follow me on Instagram: @darby.amplifiedShare the show with one person you think might be one of us.
