It's been a year since I first launched the Amiga Handle Your Shit Podcast. Going back in time to the journey, I can’t be anything but so grateful about everything that has happened and, the guests I had, and of course, everything that will happen in the future. 

The universe wanted this to happen. And I accepted the challenge, and made it happen, but only because you, my listeners, who have been with me since the beginning. I want to thank all of you for your continuous support and appreciation. 

In this episode 39, I will talk about some of the guests that I had and some lessons that I learned from them. I will also share some exciting news about the future of the podcast and some personal projects I am working on.

How has trauma from your childhood showed up in your later life? Many children of immigrants have to work through culture shock, feelings of isolation, and begin to question their identity years after immigrating.Today, I'm joined by the amazing Dr. Maylin Gonzalez. Dr. Gonzalez began working in eye care at the age of 15 where optics propelled her to go to school at the New England College of Optometry. After progressing as an optometrist in New York, Dr. Gonzalez craved sunshine and moved to Los Angeles to open up her practice, Eyed LA, in the Fall of 2012. Ultimately reinventing how eye care is provided, Dr. Gonzalez has recently opened up a new practice in Santa Monica and provides private one on one sessions, frame selections, eye exams, and consultations which are by appointment only for patients to receive optimal eye care and specialization. I am lucky enough to have Dr. Gonzalez as my optometrist and as I’ve learned her experiences as a Cuban American, I knew that many Amigas would relate to her life story.Dr. Gonzalez’s story as a young child moving to a new country with a new culture will inspire you to look inwards at how your own family’s journey has impacted the way that you move through life.
