Alternative Wales: The Podcast

It's the first episode of our new series 'Alternative Wales Meets' where we chat to interesting people involved in Welsh football, music, culture and beyond - and our first guest is Emily Ash Powell.Emily Ash Powell is the author of Hurdling, a newsletter where she interviews writers, creatives and interesting people about their hurdles - but she's also a proud Bridgend girl and a new and impressive contributor to Alternative Wales. She sat down with Ryan and Greg to discuss her career, losing her Welsh accent, being a creative in London whilst retaining her Welshness and plenty more.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales

It's wet, isn't it? And the miserable weather mirrored a lot of Welsh football this weekend, as Swansea, Newport, Wrexham and Merthyr all slumped to defeats, while Cardiff bucked the trend with another win at the CCS. Ryan and Charlie cover all of that plus a Cymru Premier round up, derby day in the Cymru North, the vacancy at Burnley and more.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------

A special episode live from Swn Festival as Ryan hosted a panel including Ibby Abdi (IBY World), Elan Evans (Freelance Project & Artist Manager & Grwndi Records), James Webb (Adidas) and Connor Cupples (Cwmbran Celtic FC) to explore how music, fashion and football culture intersect, and how artists and creative communities are finding new audiences through the game.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan and Greg take you through another wonderful week of Welsh football as Wales women book their place to a World Cup play-off final, Cardiff City & Wrexham get some much needed points on the board, Newport’s unbeaten run continues and the Swans stay on top despite a defeat. In the Welsh Cup, we had goalkeeper goals, late drama and some OAPs on the scoresheet. Just another normal week.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jordan James is at it again, and this week he’s been caught up in The Sopranos and other gangster content. Who are we to argue? So, he’s passed on a game to Charlie that will pit Ryan and Greg against each other once again. The aim of the game is to pick the best mobster nickname for a variety of Wales players past and present.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greg and Ryan are back on club duty after the extended men's international break. But the international football doesn't stop there as Wales women win 1-0 out in Albania in the first leg of the World Cup play-off semi finals. And it's a good weekend for Swansea and Newport, and not so good for Cardiff, Wrexham and Merthyr. We have FOUR (!!) Cymru Premier gameweeks to catch up and we discuss Lewis Koumas starting for Liverpool and squad dropouts going straight back in for their clubs. It's a stacked pod, where we try and cover as much Welsh football as humanely possible in around 60 minutes.A big thank you to our sponsors, Penybont Football Club.SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ryan and Greg are confused. Wales won a game, but Greg got his phone nicked. Wales lost the other three games, but we had a nice time away. Are we happy or sad? All will be revealed. Or will it?SIGN UP TO THE ALTERNATIVE WALES SOCIAL CLUB:https://alternativewales.substack.comSUPPORT THE PODCAST & BUY A MAGAZINE:https://www.alternativewales.com/SUBSCRIBE TO THE CHANNEL HERE:https://www.youtube.com/@alternativewales----------------------------------------------------------------------LISTEN TO OUR PODCASTS:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/7r90uCwusyhNqwyKSwq1TE?si=832f6e8186744f6dApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/alternative-wales/id1566056324----------------------------------------------------------------------FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alternativewalesTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@altwalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/altwales------------------------------------------------------------------------
