The Yonaguni Monument – Japan's Atlantis

Beneath the waves off Japan's Ryukyu Islands, a series of mysterious pyramid-like formations has fascinated divers and geologists ever since the site was discovered in 1987.

In 1987, a local diver exploring the coast of Japan's southern Ryukyu Islands stumbled upon an astonishing discovery. Twenty-five meters below the surface, he saw a series of almost perfectly carved steps with straight edges. Today known as the Yonaguni Monument, this enormous behemoth, measuring 50 meters long and 20 meters wide, is one of the world's most unusual underwater sites.

Nicknamed "Japan's Atlantis," the rectangular, stacked, pyramid-like monument is believed to be more than 10,000 years old. Some believe it is all that remains of a long-lost Pacific civilization, possibly built by Japan's prehistoric Jōmon people, who inhabited these islands as early as 12,000 BC. Others argue that the site resembles natural formations found elsewhere in the world with distinctly defined edges and flat surfaces, such as Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland, whose thousands of interlocking basalt columns were formed by a volcanic eruption millions of years ago.

  • UFO Mysteries in Russia

    09:58|
In 1977, the residents of Petrozavodsk, along with people across a vast region stretching more than 1,000 kilometers, were captivated by an extraordinary celestial event. A bright, glowing object, resembling an exploding star, projected beams toward the Earth and triggered both concern and fascination.Witnesses described the object as a gigantic jellyfish, approximately 300 feet in diameter, with golden, beautifully colored tentacles. It was reported that many onlookers appeared ill for hours after the event, and some felt an "electric current" when the lights appeared. In addition, wherever these lights touched the ground or window ledges, they left rough holes.

Within Egyptian tradition, the Sphinx was most often depicted as a noble and benevolent male creature—an androsphinx—with the body of a lion and the head of a man, frequently guarding the entrances to tombs and temples. In Greek tradition, however, the Sphinx was portrayed as a female, a gynosphinx, with the body of a lion, the large wings of a bird of prey, a tail ending in a serpent's head or resembling that of a dragon, and the head and breasts of a woman. She was treacherous and merciless. How old is it? How was it built?

  • The Alaska Triangle

    07:01|
This region, loosely defined as the wilderness between Utqiagvik, Anchorage, and Juneau, has also been called the "Alaska Bermuda Triangle," although that description may actually understate just how deadly the Alaska Triangle is.The phenomenon first gained widespread attention in October 1972, when a small passenger plane suddenly disappeared while flying from Anchorage to Juneau. Neither its passengers nor the wreckage were ever found, despite multiple search operations covering more than 325,000 square kilometers.
