Episode 2: Sir or Ma’am... Remember when you were first called this?
Aging is a unique topic that is not at all well understood, universally. It isn’t lost youth, but rather it's a new phase of life filled with new territories to be conquered. The beauty is that with more experience and a clearer mind, you know more about what is important to you.
In fact, some older people have done some pretty kewl things that has changed the lives of millions. They were only able to achieve those things because they never viewed aging as closed doors. Aging shouldn’t be about dysfunction and loss of control, but rather, more about exploring the opportunities that this stage of life offers.
In this second episode, we’ll discuss reactions to being called ”Sir” or ”Ma’am!” Are these references signs of respect, politeness, or reverance? Or, are these terms thought of as old-fashioned, put-downs, derrogatory, and mean-spirited?
