Nigel's guest today is David Archuleta. Singer David rose to national fame in 2008 as the runner-up on American Idol when he was just seventeen, captivating millions with his angelic voice. Behind the scenes, however, he was struggling with a truth he feared would destroy everything: he was attracted to men. David was also a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints. The two things clashed brutally leading to shame, worthlessness and wanting to take his own life. Now a beautifully open queer man, his book Devout – Losing My Faith To Find Myself details the journey he has had to take to juggle his faith, fame and identity. It is a phenomenal and powerful read.

Nicknamed “Alfie” Gareth excelled in the sport and captained his home country, Wales, on countless occasions. Gareth came out in 2009 and the following year was voted the most influential gay person in the UK. In 2019 he revealed online that he is HIV+ and has campaigned tirelessly since then to end the stigma surrounding the condition with his work at Tackle HIV. He is also currently fronting a campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of chemsex and drug misuse within the LGBTQIA+ community.
