Bird Flu, train spotting horse and half meat burgers

Ep. 12

012 | Bird flu, train spotting horse and half meat burgers

The news this week comes from around the world with the worrying development of Bird Flu being found in Dairy Cattle in the US and two people in Texas with the flu. Flooding in the UK making lambing a nightmare for many and a horse taking a midnight stroll into a train station in Oz!

Our deep dive this week is into the world of Harvest B and Australian start-up and their offering of plant based protein to complement meat and be eaten with it rather than in competition to it. What are the implications for the meat industries and consumers world wide?

  • 20. Sustainability - the missing puzzle piece?

    40:10
020 | Are we in NZ sure we have the sustainability of our workforce covered? Can we honestly say that we use best practice in staff relationships and with Sharemilkers/Managers and Owners? Do we have the framework to support our farmers to be great in this area? And how do we measure our success or lack there of? Does this have the potential to be the underbelly of NZ Ag that is just waiting to be exposed? Will this cost us our Social Licence to operate? and be the next dirty dairy exposure?Tune in to the Mindset Mentor Podcast - here.‌HOSTS | @emilywalker @myfanwyalexander‌Intro/outro copyright infoTrack: "Sunrise Instr"Music provided by Royalty-free music for creators. • 15. Breaking down productivity and what it actually means, growing rice in glasshouses and meals in schools

    34:09
015 | Our land and water have done more outstanding research, this time in the meals in school space and how this can connect children to agriculture (here), we jump the ditch and look at the effects of PFA contaminated water has on cattle and finally look at some very cool research out of China where they have grown rice successfully in less time in glasshouses, expanding the required growing conditions and therefore locations. Inspired by the Institute of Directors seasonal magazine, we dig deep into productivity touching on commentary from regional economist Benje Patterson. Why does it matter? how can we improve?Lastly we leave you with the challenge to do something nice for someone else - just cause - life feels a bit tough right now but lets brighten someone's day!We also snuck in a wee promo to Jana Hocken of Lean Dairy and her fabulous work, well work checking out - https://theleandairyfarm.com/‌HOSTS | @emilywalker @myfanwyalexander‌Intro/outro copyright infoTrack: "Sunrise Instr"Music provided by Royalty-free music for creators.
