ADHD As Females
We are ADHD AF but who are we?
Neurodivergent neighbours, Dawn and I (Laura), were both diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 38.
In this first episode we explore what Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is, before diving into our experiences pre, during and post diagnosis. With the average age for women to be diagnosed when missed in childhood being between 36-38, and the huge number of women left mis/undiagnosed altogether, we realise that our experience is an all too common occurance. We explore what it means to get such a late diagnosis, and the impact the disability has had and continues to have on all aspects of our lives.
Things could definitely have been different with the knowledge and diagnosis earlier, but there are positives.
Both at different stages in our diagnosis journey, with similarities and differences in the way ADHD presents itself and the challenges we each face as a result.
We touch on comorbidities, career struggles, and symptoms such as time blindness, (as a result of which this episode is double the length we planned and even thought it was! LOL)
More than anything this is an introduction chat, or rather a 'get to know us blether' where we touch on our experiences in general before deep diving into specific topics in upcoming episodes.
TRIGGER WARNING:
We explore some very sensitive topics which some listeners may find distressing, including; depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and suicide.
