Kai was left with a traumatic brain injury that threatened his life and left the Sakikabara family clinging onto hope.The incident inspired Saya to pursue the olympic dream for the both of them at Tokyo in 2021 where adversity reared its ugly head and left her with a troubling concussion of her own.
