7 Reasons to Visit Shees Park in Sharjah

Located in Sharjah’s Khor Fakkan area, Shees Park Sharjah is not only one of the most popular attractions in the emirate, but it’s also one of the most unique recreational areas in the entire United Arab Emirates. The park was built during the reign of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, the former ruler of Sharjah and was opened to the public in 1986.

1) Day trip

When you have a day off, you should make sure you’re taking advantage of it by getting out of town. It could be that you take a road trip or visit a nearby city—it’s totally up to you. Just make sure that your destination is fun and entertaining. And even if it’s not, just give yourself over to new experiences and let yourself enjoy each moment no matter what.

2) Picnic

Grab a blanket and some friends and head to Shees Park, where you can enjoy lunch while soaking up some sun. At sunset, you can watch families gather for kite-flying—the park is a great place for kite-flying because of its proximity to Khor Fakkan beach. If it’s windy enough (most days!), residents will launch colorful kites into the sky that are attached by string to their backpacks.

3) Hiking

One of my favorite outdoor activities is hiking. The silence, vastness and natural beauty make me feel calm and peaceful. For me, there’s nothing better than finding a beautiful path that leads up into mountains or down along a coastline. That’s why I love going hiking!

4) Stargazing

Stargazing takes place at its best when you’re gazing up at a pitch-black sky, but unfortunately most cities are too bright for optimum stargazing. The vast desert surrounding Khor Fakkan is one of very few places in UAE where you can still catch a glimpse of stars. Get there by car and avoid bringing any form of light with you – or better yet, hop on a camel instead and enjoy a slightly less bumpy ride through an even darker desert!

5) Time capsule

The park’s time capsule is one of its most interesting features. The park has a section reserved for visitors to drop personal items, like an old family photo or T-shirt, into a sealed glass container that will remain untouched until 2029. It’s not just about documenting our belongings and personal items for future generations; it’s also about encouraging people of today to appreciate what they have right now.

6) Group events

Shees park is a perfect venue for group outings, picnics and gatherings. It’s also a wonderful spot for families looking to take their children outdoors, with plenty of entertainment on offer. Here are seven reasons why you should head down there right now.

7) Couple time

Time spent with a significant other or friends is an important factor for health and happiness. A number of studies have found that, on average, people are happier when they have active social lives. The mental and physical benefits of spending time with loved ones can’t be ignored. Just remember not to monopolize your partner’s schedule! Having too many obligations can stress out anyone, so make sure you give them plenty of couple time as well.
