Welcome to the new series The Politics Debrief - a new weekly podcast which explains, discusses, and debates the political news stories that matter to you.

Across the Atlantic, Tim Walz and JD Vance went head-to-head in CBS News' VP Debate on Tuesday night. Could JD Vance's cool and calm approach have swayed some voters? Did Tim Walz come across as more genuine?
Sam also speaks to academic Dr Barış Çelik about the escalation in the Middle East, and what this means for the region and the wider international community.
