In this poignant episode of Mummahood The Podcast, we welcome Lucy, a dedicated mother whose world was turned upside down when her vibrant daughter underwent a drastic personality shift at just three years old. Lucy's little girl developed OCD, intense rage, tics, dark thoughts, and exhibited traits of autism, leading to profound challenges including a reluctance to leave the house or interact with peers. For years, Lucy faced countless unanswered questions and a sense of isolation, until she bravely decided to open up on her Instagram page. Through this vulnerability, she connected with other parents facing similar struggles, who ultimately guided her to seek help from Dr. Tim at the PANS and PANDAS clinic in London. Her daughter was then diagnosed with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal infections). PANDAS is a disorder triggered by an infection, leading to an autoimmune response that can result in sudden onset of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as obsessive-compulsive behaviors, tics, and mood instability. Discover the transformative impact of treatment, as Lucy recounts the miraculous turnaround that occurred within just two weeks, restoring her daughter's joy and spirit after five long years of fighting for answers. This episode is a testament to the power of community, advocacy, and the relentless love of a mother fighting for her child.
