On today’s episode on One For The Road I have to issue a trigger warning as there are discussions around child abuse and suicide. My guest on todays show today is Lucy Bruce. Lucy lives in Glasgow with her two daughters and has now been sober for 18 years. Her childhood was impacted by alcohol, violence & sexual abuse and she self-medicated with alcohol throughout her teens and early twenties until suicidal thoughts and panic attacks made her seek help to get sober. Despite removing alcohol Lucy struggled with unresolved childhood trauma & suffered from obtrusive thoughts surrounding her pregnancies until years later when she experienced MDMA Therapy and has never looked back. Lucy is a single parent, has weathered divorce, co-dependent relationships and loss but still lives a life free from alcohol. She is passionate about her children and work as an Alcohol-free coach and wants to share her story with women who may be going through similar experiences to help get rid of the stigma around the issues. www.lucybrucelifecoach.com https://www.instagram.com/lucybrucelifecoach/If you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice.www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle

Welcome back to One For The Road. This week i am joined by Sharon and Lauretta, an acclaimed comedy double act who have appeared in numerous TV and stage productions, developed sitcoms with comedy giants, and written plays for the West End. Sharon and Lauretta went from red wine-drinking Chinese take-out aficionados to thriving advocates of a plant-based lifestyle. Sharon's diagnosis of a rare autoimmune disease was a turning point that led them down a path of resilience, determination, and ultimately, transformation. Sharon was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease just before her son was born over 9 years ago. She was covered from head to toe in a chronic rash, and at times was wheelchair-bound. On a concoction of very toxic drugs and steroids, she decided she needed to find another way to get better. Her sister was determined to do everything she could to help Sharon. Her husband left her at six months pregnant, and she was now looking after Sharon, her daughter, and Sharon's son. As two single Mums living together with very young children, they decided they wanted to do everything to get Sharon's health back. After extensive research and a lot of trial and error, together they transitioned into a plant-based diet with lots of nutrient-dense foods, gave up alcohol and processed foods. Lauretta retrained as a natural vegan chef concentrating on nutrition. Sharon is now off all drugs, feels better than ever, and is back running. They decided they wanted to inspire others and in 2018 set up a wellness retreat, The Detox Barn followed by launching their first product, Funki Coffee, and their hugely successful podcast - The Gavin Sisters Wellness Show.www.gavinsisters.co.ukInsta: @gavinsistersukTIKTOK:@gavinsistersFacebook: @TheDetoxBarnYou Tube: @gavingavinIf you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice.www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle/

Thanks for tuning into this weeks epsiode of One For `The Road. This week i am joined by Matt Busbridge. Matt started drinking when he was 17 - it was something that wasn’t really of interest to him before that and he began mainly going to clubs etc and drinking maybe once a week . Drink gave him the confidence and a whole new lease of life at that age. He struggled , and still does, with confidence . He reckons it all stems from where he used to be quite a big lad and that hasn’t really left him since . Matt then started taking drugs around the age of 22 - the drug of choice was cocaine . He dabbled with others - mdma / ecstasy / ketamine and he took drugs all the way up to his 30s … it was pretty much a weekly occurrence with him; with these actions he self sabotaged relationships, but alsonused it as a form of self medicating . When living in London Matt was drinking and using around 3 days a week and he used to also do something called ‘Monday club’ where it was a case of just getting messed up after work .  Matt went through Mega lows; chromic depression and anger towards people who wanted to help whuch was very selfish Matt went sober last January, he didn’t attend AA - he mainly just listened to podcasts . Matt is doing really well now and hopes that by sharing his story it will help others to look at their relationship with drugs and alcohol.https://www.instagram.com/highsobrietypodcast_?igsh=bGs0NDUzbDc0c3Zr&utm_source=qrhttps://anchor.fm/highsobrietypodcasthttps://youtu.be/CfAyZfbdWBs?si=-3i2kcCamFK-2cSbIf you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdave https://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice.www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle/

Kim’s journey began in 2013 when she decided to make the commitment to stop drinking in order to support her son Matthew who had been diagnosed with epilepsy. Sober is the New Cool was created as she soon realised the social pressures surrounding not only herself but her son too. Connection is the key to hope, health and happiness. She quickly realised that sending messages of hope and inspiration every day has the potential to brighten someone’s world. Kim feels blessed to have reinvented herself at the age of 52, and to be able to have filled her life with passion and something she can be proud of, and if we can remember that no act of kindness no matter how small, is ever wasted.Only by giving can we receive more than we already have.https://www.instagram.com/sober.is.the.new.cool/https://www.facebook.com/soberisthenewcool.org/https://twitter.com/i/flow/login?redirect_after_login=%2FSoberitnchttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_tmHjBMjRmRj-HECQ3_FegIf you want to connect with me via Instagram, you can find me on the instahandle @Soberdavehttps://www.instagram.com/soberdave/or via my website https://davidwilsoncoaching.com/Provided below are links for services offering additional help and advice.https://www.instagram.com/lucy_norfolk_/www.drinkaware.co.uk/advice/alcohol-support-serviceshttps://nacoa.org.uk/Show producer- Daniella Attanasio-MartinezInstagram - @TheDaniellaMartinezhttps://www.instagram.com/thedaniellamartinez/www.instagram.com/grownuphustle/
