Reaching out, touching me, touching you with Caroline Reddy

Season 1, Ep. 17

Demine the Ukraine

Legacy of War Foundation

Paging David Harbour, Caroline would like to have word with you.

Caroline and I talk and talk and talk and generally have a merry old time. We discuss finding the people to support us and our goals and how, cliché as it may sound, all things do happen in their own time. We hit on the dreaded fallow times of low creation and ways to cope. She highly recommends hiring John Compton and I concur lol. But in all seriousness it it all comes back to the community you create and support and connecting with yourself. Remember, while the hard times are harding and good times aren't gooding, you are still growing and changing more into yourself. Meet yourself with compassion, yes even that gross bit you don't want anyone to see. You can do more things than you could ever imagine because life will sure as fuck will find a way to make sure they do.

As cliche as it is, it doesn't make it any less true. Jason O'Toole, is right. We are in a golden age of writing and communicating and yes, loving. There has never been a time like this one and by the grace of what have you, there may never be again. Here's another cliche for you while we're here, you're never alone. Yeah yeah yeah, I know, same to you buddy but hey I didn't make the rules. What you love, what speaks to you, is as much your lineage as anything else.Cheers y'all!Mentions:Anne BradstreetHerman MelvilleGloria AlbertJT LeroyWilliam Carlos WilliamsWilliam S. This is good 'un. INARA Cease Fire Today MAP Islamic Relief for Palestine The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children's FundMutual Aid Diabetes Demine the Ukraine Legacy of War FoundationDoctors without Borders UNHCRWhat is art and its worth? What makes something art and not-art? Pretentious and overreaching? Probably! But we're honest about it. Val and I hit lots of gongs and pans and make some good noise I think. We talk about fan creations, the dreaded ai, art as religion, eating lead paint, and maybe a little bit about why creating something real (away from value judgements, the fall of capitalism), is so important to human animals. At least for these two beasts anyway."The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven's sake." The Graduation Speeches and Other Words to Live By, released by RosettaBooks."Pluto is a suspicious and prideful and secretive and warlike planet, with a technology far in advance of our own. My guess is that Plutonians began to arrive and reproduce and hold jobs in our government just as the Second World War was ending. Our last three presidents may have been Plutonians. Most of them, however, are in the Pentagon. We would perhaps welcome them, if it weren’t for their humorlessness and pitilessness, and their blather about national honor—and for their love of war." --KV***Third Wednesdays with Kurt pod cover is based on Carin Goldberg's stunning designs, in particular my own cover of Slaughterhouse-Five published by Dell.Cheers y'all.P.S. Cease Fire Today MAP Islamic Relief for Palestine The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children's FundMutual Aid Diabetes Demine the Ukraine Legacy of War FoundationDoctors without Borders UNHCRKate Pyontek and I discuss how human legacy is creation. In the way that birds sing, we are driven to create. That impetus to move and change something, to make something exist where it didn't before, seems to be baked into our hardware. In all they ways we reach and try and offer glimpses of ourselves with our creations. We may be striving for the impossible, but the impossibility isn't the point. The trying is.Free Gaza. We talk about the journey that is creation, using it to understand ourselves, and how our personal themes always return. We also touch on connection and accountability vers shame and the importance of play. Half of creativity is putting yourself is putting yourself in the way of your curiosity. You are allowed to want. You are allowed to keep trying, and keep failing. Sucking at something is the first (second, third, fourth, c'mon man!) step to doing something awesome.
