Make Your Damn Bed

702 || a little dilly a little dally

Sometimes it feels like I'm dipping my toes into several ponds at once - and sometimes... that works for me. Other times, however, I thrive in a bit of structure. Routine is something I rarely seek out, but daggone it's valuable as hell for us neuro-spicy types.

    The overwhelm is real, and until I return to a more regular sense of whelm, I am going to go easy on myself if I don't have time for an explicit "date" with myself. Today's resources:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Artist%27s_Wayhttps://juliacameronlive.com/basic-tools/artists-dates/
  • 1104 || defusing counterwill

    09:26
    counterwill is an important developmental function, but it can be a hindrance to healthy relationship develeopment. it's important to recognize it is an instinct, albeit a frustrating one. so remember when dealing with counterwill, it's important not to ignore the rebellion but also important not to force control. instead, we should pay attention + focus on our attachment in the relationship, instead. “We may not be responsible for the way the world creates our mind, but we can learn to take responsibility for the mind with which we create our world.” - Gabor MatéIf you didn't know, Gabor Maté is truly a great educator and I aspire to communicate ideas as meaningfully and effectively as he can. • 1102 || i'm back (and discussing Gabor Maté's "Scattered Minds")!

    09:49
    Today I'm sharing some thoughts on and from Gabor Maté's book, Scattered Minds. While many of us don't have ADD/ADHD, I think learning about psychology at any specificity can be helpful to anyone with a brain - especially if you choose to communicate with anyone who also has a brain. Basically, we're all lil weirdos who's brains crave and need attention + it gets a little tricky if we're not aware of the way we're asking for it. I especially enjoyed the point the author made about the "deficit" in attention deficit disorder referring to the attention we're receiving, not the attention we're giving. “We may not be responsible for the way the world creates our mind, but we can learn to take responsibility for the mind with which we create our world.” - Gabor MatéIf you didn't know, Gabor Maté is truly a great educator and I aspire to communicate ideas as meaningfully and effectively as he can. • 1099 || hunker in a bunker or build a community

    07:59
    Key quotes:  "...the way to keep the hungry hordes from storming the gates is by getting them food security now.""I made pro-social arguments for partnership and solidarity as the best approaches to our collective, long-term challenges. The way to get your guards to exhibit loyalty in the future was to treat them like friends right now, I explained. Don’t just invest in ammo and electric fences, invest in people and relationships.""What I came to realise was that these men are actually the losers. The billionaires who called me out to the desert to evaluate their bunker strategies are not the victors of the economic game so much as the victims of its perversely limited rules. More than anything, they have succumbed to a mindset where “winning” means earning enough money to insulate themselves from the damage they are creating by earning money in that way. It’s as if they want to build a car that goes fast enough to escape from its own exhaust."RESOURCE: https://www.theguardian.com/news/2022/sep/04/super-rich-prepper-bunkers-apocalypse-survival-richest-rushkoffGET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only. • 1098 || digging out of a metaphorical whole (with gusto)

    06:21
    Solving any type of problem can be likened to digging a hole. It is laborious work. And as you continue to dig, the uprooting becomes tougher because the problems you deal with are more compacted and nuanced. That said - it's CRUCIAL we remember that it's a great sign that the work is getting harder. It means you're making progress. Don't get discouraged. Take breaks, be proud you have come this far, and don't get too frustrated. You're doing a great job! Just. keep. digging!GET AN OCCASIONAL PERSONAL EMAIL FROM ME: www.makeyourdamnbedpodcast.comTUNE IN ON INSTAGRAM FOR COOL CONTENT: www.instagram.com/mydbpodcastOR BE A REAL GEM + TUNE IN ON PATREON: www.patreon.com/MYDBpodcastOR WATCH ON YOUTUBE: www.youtube.com/juliemerica The opinions expressed by Julie Merica and Make Your Damn Bed Podcast are intended for entertainment purposes only.
