Putting King's Online

Ensuring consistency & quality is key when designing and delivering online learning courses. Our e-Learning assistants ensure that our students’ learning experience has been quality checked to a very high standard from ideation to delivery. They cast a watchful eye over spelling, grammar, coherence, clarity and usability. In this episode we learn about the work they do and the many hats they wear when looking at course content creation.

Our topic this week is accessibility in design. Creating accessible learning experiences is not only inclusive of a wider student population, but also challenges us to think more creatively about the nature and purpose of online learning. Danielle talks passionately about the challenges faced by disabled students and how we at OPEE are striving to make online education accessible.

Video Editors work a lot of magic in transforming raw footage into beautiful, high quality videos that form part of our online courses. This week one of our Video Editors George, talks us through the complexity of bringing an educational topic to life through an intricate edit process. We also discuss the impact of mainstream consumption of video-based content, from films and tv shows to social media, on student expectations of high quality educational media outputs.

This week we delve into the important topic of Diversity & Inclusion within OPEE. We reflect on the impact that the Black Lives Matter movement had in drawing awareness to the lived experiences of people of colour all over the world. Our conversation centres around the need for more transparency and accountability regarding diversity and inclusion, not just within our team practises, but in the courses we design for our students.

Graphics, illustrations, animations and diagrams visually bring an online course to life. In this week’s episode Abi Lingford talks us through the important role that good visual design plays in online learning. We discuss the importance of inclusive and accessible design, understanding our students needs and delivery visuals that enhance the learning experience.

Our last episode of 2020 is a reflection on the changing landscape of online and face to face teaching in a post COVID-19 world. We discuss how technology, media and instructional design has been impacted by the pandemic, and look to the future for what higher education could look like in 2021 and beyond.

Project Manager’s play a vital role in facilitating the production of our online programmes. They plan, schedule and oversee the time and resources allocated to any given project.
