  • 35. 35 - Christ's Witness Can Never Be Untrue | St. Ephraim of Nea Makri's Addiction Prayers

    06:13
Dave reads from John 5:30-6:2 where Jesus says, "I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me. If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true. You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth." • 30. 30 - How Mothers Put Children First | Lifegiving Spring Theotokos Icon | Bright Friday Reading from John

    10:29
Have you ever noticed how devoted your wife is to your children? She goes about her day (either as a stay-at-home mother or working mother) and tirelessly gives to you and the children. If she stays at home, she tends to the kids just about 24/7. If she works outside the home, she likely works 8+ hours and then comes home-- and then takes care of the kids and housework. Moms just keep going because they know it's needed. We need to support that as their husbands, which I discussed in episode 18 (https://bit.ly/dd-18). But, perhaps more importantly, we need to support their time with God. That's the message from today's episode. Check out the article, "The Role of the Mother in Raising Children," mentioned at https://saintkosmas.com/st-paisios-the-role-of-the-mother-in-raising-children as well as the "Theotokos of the Life-giving Spring" article from https://www.goarch.org/chapel/saints?contentid=850&type=saints. • 29. 29 - Anxiety and Our Life in Christ | Readings from Wisdom of Solomon for Bright Thursday

    13:54
"Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?" That's the message from Jesus in Matthew 6:27 NIV.  We are so consumed by worry and anxiety that we lose sight of what God does and who He is. Dave reads selections from Marcus Geromes' piece, "Anxiety and Our Life in Christ," and discusses a conversation he and an neighbor had about worry and Matthew 6.  Also, listen to the Bright Thursday readings from the Wisdom of Solomon (https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2020/04/23/2). You can read Geromes' article (featured on The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America's website) at https://www.goarch.org/-/anxiety-and-our-life-in-christ. Christ is Risen! Indeed He is Risen! • 28. 28 - Spiritual Aspects Of Fatherhood | Acts of the Apostles Reading for Bright Wednesday

    12:37
As fathers and husbands, we are called to be role models to our children. We should exemplify how to pray, how to love, and how to forgive. Dave shares some wisdom from Dr. Albert Rossi's article, "The Spiritual Aspects of Fatherhood," a personal story that showcases how we let anger get the best of us, and the reading from Acts for Bright Wednesday. Resources for this episode include: Dr. Rossi's piece (http://www.theologic.com/oflweb/forfolks/spirfrhd.htm), Orthodox Christian Parenting blog (https://bit.ly/orthoparent), and today's readings (https://www.oca.org/readings/daily/2020/04/22/1).
