3 Ways To Beat Procrastination

Ep. 128

Do you struggle with doing things in your business because you put them off? Maybe you leave things until the last minute to get them done? Maybe you find your time is the hardest thing to manage?

We are moving into September and the topic for September is Time Management and the questions we’re asking at our Business Socials this month is – How do you beat procrastination?

For the types that are productive mavins, you’ll struggle to understand what it’s like not to be productive. But for the personalities out there that do, this episode is for you! We’re going to talk through 3 ways to beat procrastination.

1. From the wisest person before Jesus King Solomon give us a great tip in Ecclesiastes 11

Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.2 Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.3 If the clouds be full of rain, they empty themselves upon the earth: and if the tree fall toward the south, or toward the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.4 He that observeth the wind shall not sow; and he that regardeth the clouds shall not reap.5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.6 In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thine hand: for thou knowest not whether shall prosper, either this or that, or whether they both shall be alike good.7 Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun:8 But if a man live many years, and rejoice in them all; yet let him remember the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.9 Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth; and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thine heart, and in the sight of thine eyes: but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.10 Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.where he shares about investing.

First, I love that this verse shows that Solomon through God’s wisdom did invest and knew the importance of it. Even though wealth, riches and success aren’t the things that are going to bring us fulfilment in this life, investing and being wise with what we do have is still important.

Another great point from King Solomon in Proverbs 10:4-5

He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich. This shows again that the wisdom of God is telling us that to be diligent with our hands and work.

Proverbs 14:23

23 In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury. So we know that from God’s wisdom that it’s good to work, and not just talk about ideas dreams and visions but to actually, plan, take action and get to work with our businesses.

I think the biggest thing is trying to workout what it is that’ stopping us from doing the thing we want to do. Is it simply that we don’t like doing the task? If that’s the case then delegate it out. Do you have fear? If it’s fear then where is that fear coming from and surrender it to God?

So point number 1 is to ask yourself what’s stopping you from doing the thing you’re procrastinating with.

2. Surrender it to God, ask Him for help to face the fear, wisdom on how to deal with the situation.

3. Make sure the thing you want to do the least is going to make a difference to your business. If it isn’t doing anything to build the business or brings no value to your customers then get rid of it. If it is going to bring value or is vital to your business, make it the first thing you do on your list so it’s over and done with, or as I mentioned before, delegate it out. Think of an out of the box way of how you can get someone to help you do the task.

Founder Sarah-Jane Meeson was given a word to inspire women. Since then, Sarah-Jane dreamed about how she could inspire women and unite them together. She knew it was going to be for God and she knew she had a passion for business and just to see people thrive and be all that they can be: no matter what past they’ve had, no matter how much money or where they come from. It’s about them being the best person they can be for God and to help share their story of how God has worked through their life and business.

After chatting with a girlfriend and sitting on the idea for a while, God kept prompting her heart to bring this movement of women together. After some time, Sarah-Jane knew what she needed to do; she bit the bullet and now here it is. Christian Women in Business – a movement of Christian women pushing forward for God in their businesses … and it’s great!
