2021 is off to quite a start mostly because of the insurrection at our Nation’s Capital last week. The Country was gripped, but watching the riots happen was extra difficult if you were a woman on Color. In this episode, we talk through how triggering the riots at the Capitol were for Women and People of Color, and how we can protect ourselves going forward.

01:01:49|Let’s Get MinimalMinimalism is a design, lifestyle, and aesthetic trend that is gripping the Nation. Forced to live with and deal with our stuff while the World was in Lockdown, people are making intentional decisions about how much stuff they need and want to live with. Mainstream Minimalism imagery can be stark, rigid , and White Washed (both literally and figuratively) leading some to wonder If Minimalism is for Black People? Can we carve out a space that feels like it belongs to us in the White Washed world of Minimalism? On today’s episode, I am sitting down with the Afrominimalist to discuss the answers to these questions as well as talk about her new book, The Afrominimalist’s Guide To Living With Less.Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is:Crowns & Hops- (@crownsandhops)- Black Owned Craft Beer Brand & Brewery https://crownsandhops.com/Chunks (@chunks.shop)- Asian Owned color hair clip and barrette brand https://chunks.shop/Keep Up With The Afrominimalist Website: https://www.afrominimalist.com/IG: @afrominimalist Twitter: @christineaplattFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/christine.p.patrick.1Buy The Book: https://www.loyaltybookstores.com/book/9781982168049Live With Less: https://www.afrominimalist.com/live-with-lessFind us on Social Media:@blackandyellowpodcastAlana J. 01:19:04|Broadway has been rocked, and not in the Queen musical kind of way. That letter began with the powerful words “Dear White American Theatre.” In this episode, we talk to a culture critic all about how Broadway is dealing with this letter, changes he has seen, and what the future holds for The Great White Way (no pun intended).Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is:Alana- Melanin Moments (@melanin_moments_)- wrapping paper featuring people of Color with a philanthropic twist (melaninmoments.com)Jac- Asian Veggies (@asian_veggies)- delicious, nutritious Asian veggies delivered to your door (asian-veggies.com)Keep Up With Jose Solis:Twitter: @josesolismayenListen to Token Theatre Friends Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/token-theatre-friends/id1516665246https://www.americantheatre.org/2020/10/07/jose-solis-the-critic-as-cheerleader-and-critics-lab-leader/Find us on Instagram: @blackandyellowpodcastAlana J.
