They also claimed the Coen Brothers paid tribute to it Big Lebowski. This was enough to make me shell out the bucks and buy it.Imagine my dissapointment. The picture and sound quality were dire. Too much contrast in the video and the sound had to be turned up super loud to follow the dialogue.The movie came across as just another viet vet/counter culture exploitation movie with a trite plot that hardly went anywhere and never engaged me or made me feel any suspense. I have loved this movie for decades and always wanted a copy. At last I have it. It went straight into the DVD player quality is good for an 80's movie and a disk that is not "mass produced". The signed copy was unexpected for me and struck me as cool. I originally saw " The American Success Co." version, as I remember it being called, on HBO(?) as a kid about 1980. I cannot recommend this film enough. Super fun to watch and surely one of Bridges best performances ever. Love the story.6 people found this helpful

Amazing. always considered myself an Arnie fan, but I'd never seen this one The film opens like a cheesey Hallmark TV movie of the week, with a softly-spoken voice-over delivering some opening exposition in the form of a letter written to Jeff Bridges' character, Craig. Spoiler alert: Craig is irredeemable trash in this film.Just when you think you're settling in for a warm, fuzzy coming-of-age tale, the film shifts gears and becomes a gritty 70s exploitation film. For a bit. The tonal shifts in this movie will give you whip-lash. It's a drama, it's a comedy, it's a thriller, it's a sex-romp, it's a bit racist. If I'm lyin' I'm dyin'.We are introduced to new characters, on average, every 30 seconds. They will have varying levels of importance throughout the film.There's a new scene every 5 minutes. This film is great value for money as there is, conservatively, 3-4 films-worth of storylines crammedinto its 2-hour runtime.Arnold delivers a surprisingly nuanced and philosophical performance as Joe 'Mr Austria" Santo, a man who is clearly a victim of human trafficking and debt bondage/indentured servitude, and gets a lot of screen time for a niche actor early in his career. Special mention to Arnold's mole. RIP,There's an unnecessarily long scene with some hillbillies getting drunk in the woods. Arnold plays the fiddle. Jeff Bridges dances. It's perfect.The final 5-10 minutes of this film really goes off the rails. won't spoil it, but it involves campy comedy and serious sexual assault. Don't think those things go together? You're are correct.
