#182: Newport, not County

Season 7, Ep. 2

It's Ed on duty for our first summer special, looking at local football beyond our beloved Newport County, as we try to squeeze the last few drops of football out of the season whilst there are games to watch. It's an episode in three parts, covering (approximate timings):

  • Newport City FC men's playoff match vs Cefn Cribwr (4mins)
  • Newport United futsal team (16mins)
  • Newport City FC women's cup final vs Pontarddulais (27mins)

We plan to shine a light on a different local men's team next season (and possibly a different women's team too, we'll see). Get in touch if you're involved in a club who's like to be our 'team in focus' for 2024/25 - we're open to offers! But in the meantime, you can follow Newport City men (Twitter / Facebook), Newport City women (Twitter / Facebook) and Newport United (Twitter / Facebook) to see what they get up to next.

As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.

  • 5. #185: Los Leones

    24:48
Whilst we await a new managerial appointment and further signings, we bring you another summer special bonus episode! In this one, Ian speaks to Christopher Evans, Newport-based author of Los Leones: the unique story of Athletic Club Bilbao. They discuss a surprising link between the Basque Country and Caerleon, the wider cultural overlap between the region and Wales, and of course the fascinating history of Athletic as a club.Apologies for the slightly sketchy sound in parts of the episode - technical issues beyond our control etc. It's still a cracking listen! We'll be back soon with a big news roundup about recent signings, the fixture list, and perhaps even County's new manager... In the meantime, you can get in touch via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn, and you can buy our sticker packs to support the pod. As always, we thank Tinty & The Bucket Hats for letting us use Discoland as our theme tune, and we thank you for being such wonderful and loyal listeners.
  • 4. #184: Cock Out

    24:55
Avengers assemble! Sort of. As news broke this morning that Graham Coughlan has left Newport County, Ed and Rhys scrambled to join Jamie in this emergency podcast record. With little in the way of detail (as usual, say some 1912 Exiles listeners), we try to dissect the decision, the timing, the reasoning, and the who next, while also taking a moment to reflect on the efforts of the man we'll forever be grateful to for getting the club safe last year in trying circumstances. As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.
  • 3. #183: A matter of Trust

    32:35
In the first part of the pod, Jack brings you a newsround covering recent goings-on at 1912 Exiles Towers and at Rodney Parade. We also hear from The Other Three Amigos podcast about how they thought Nathan Wood got on during his recent loan spell at Cork City.Ed then takes the reins for an interview with the Newport County Supporters' Trust. Nominations are currently open for election to the new Trust Board, so we hear from Colin Everett and Shaun Johnson about their experiences over the last few years with the Trust, asking what skills they think are needed from potential candidates, and what might be the biggest challenges and opportunities for the new Board. Apologies for the fact that some of Shaun's audio is a bit sketchy due to wifi issues - but we're sure you'll agree that the content itself is a good listen. Anyone interested in putting their name forward for election should e-mail elections@ncafctrust.org for further information. As always, our sticker packs remain on sale; we also plug Rob Santwris' player fund for anyone who wants to contribute a few pennies to help Cocko get the best team possible for next season. As always, drop us a line via Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. Thanks to Tinty & The Bucket Hats for continuing to let us use Discoland as our theme tune.
